I can't stand Just Dance anymore because of some crappy local radio station remixes, but I love everything else she's done. Bad Romance is insane.

She's definitely catchy. Can't deny that. But, I think she's way better at keeping attention because of her ridiculousness. Reminds me a bit of Marilyn Manson. Mostly show, very little of it is actually the music, though the music isn't terrible. It's just typical pop. Pretty much this. I can understand that she's interesting to watch, but I still don't think I'll ever understand why people love her music so much.

She's like a four-star chef that chooses to work at TGIFridays. Depressing.

Yeah, but if she released an album of that stuff she would be lost in a sea of about a billion other "girl with a pretty voice and piano" records, what she's doing now she gets recognition and I think that's really what she wanted.

I'm not sure why what she's doing now doesn't get lost in the (much larger) sea of pop, though.

I'm not sure why what she's doing now doesn't get lost in the (much larger) sea of pop, though. It's the outrageous element. Add some ridiculous showmanship, and it really gets way more attention than it would otherwise. Why do you think Andy Warhol got any attention as an artist? It wasn't because his art was particularly good, it's because he knew how to sell himself and get attention. This is in no way saying that Lady Gaga is 'bad', mind you. And to go off of what Tawny said, yeah, I'm sure part of it was the appreciation, and honestly, maybe doing this pop music is what she wanted to do all along? Maybe this is her true stuff. Just because you don't think it has the merit of the other stuff doesn't mean she's any less talented. I'm sure plenty of people that saw Picasso's realistic paintings then saw his Cubist stuff said similar stuff. (Yes, it might be a bit of a stretch comparing her pop music to Cubism.)

I love Bad Romance so much. Lady Gaga is probably my favorite mainstream pop musician right now.

So pretty much, the only thing that makes Lady Gaga different than Katy Perry is that she's packaged differently? Wowee zowee, how wild and inventive of her.

I see Katy Perry as fundamentally identical to Lady Gaga, actually. heartless, manufactured pop that's designed to sell to a slightly "alternative" audience.

I was really surprised to even hear from her again after "Just Dance". I kind of just assumed she'd fall off the face of the earth after that. I'm stoked she stayed though, I seriously love her shit and the remixes. Especially the Kid Cudi/Kanye Poker Face remix. Good god.
The poor thing is a bit of a dullard though. I saw an interview where they asked her how she felt about the Kanye/Swift incident and how it would affect the tour, etc. she just said "I was just thinking about Kanye... and Taylor... and Beyonce. And...yeah." Then she just kind of sat there with her mouth open.

I want to also add that I find it fucking offensive when platinum-selling artists find the nerve to cry into the camera in a music video. What the fuck are you sad about? Your money-burning furnace that you heat your mansion with is broken?
